Biography

Niall Fallon is a director, creative producer, and doctoral researcher, specialising in movement direction, dramaturgy, and ensemble-based performance. Niall works across opera, physical theatre, and interdisciplinary performance, where his credits include large institutions such as the Deutsche Oper Berlin, Teatro Real Madrid, the Dutch National Opera, and the Salzburger Festspiele.

Alongside this, his independent work has taken him across tours of India, East Asia and Europe, through founding award-winning devising theatre companies for Fringe Festivals (including Edinburgh and Brighton - Best of Fringe Award). He is also the regular stage director of Cabaret Cravache Berlin. Based mostly between Berlin and England, he previously held the position of Choreographer and Director of Studio at the Berlin Opera Academy and trained at LISPA, The University of Kent, and Rose Bruford College, London. Earlier positions include being a guest director at Capa Wakefield, a puppeteer in Trigger’s The Hatchling, and a senior lecturer at Performer’s College, Birmingham.

At East 15, University of Essex, he is currently conducting an AHRC CHASE Award-funded PhD, investigating the performer's face as a compositional and ethical instrument in an age when the human face is datafied and algorithmically reproduced at scale.

His work focuses on merging physical theatre with interdisciplinary practices, using visual poetry as a means to question society, stretching metaphors and our capacity to empathise through experimental performance making. Often combining physical collage, site-specific work, opera, clown, and film with theatre anthropology, alongside providing speech and voice coaching for professionals in film, theatre, digital media, advocacy, and diplomacy.

He has been a guest speaker at the Colloquium Festival Belgium, a conference on "(New) dancing epidemics: dance by/for all?" in Charleroi, for his paper “The Grammar In The Dance - Object Embodiment in Sacred-Oriented Performance and the Erosion of Tacit Knowledge”. He has also been awarded DYCP grants from Arts Council England for his project ‘Re-inventing Site Specific Work For A New Age’.

His specialism is in the topics of ensemble sensitivity, conceptualisation/visualisation of performance and theatre anthropology.‍ ‍
